Wellcome to the International Society of Neuropelveology

Words from the President of the ISoN - Benoit Rabischong

Dear ISoN community

It is with gratitude and humility that I follow Axel Forman as the new president of the International Society of Neuropelveology. I want to thank the scientific board for this trust, all of you have a very strong scientific background and the ISoN could not have been created without your efforts and support. Together, we will exploit the great potential of this new discipline.
Neuropelveology is a gift to all clinicians and basic researchers working within the pelvic specialties. With the long needed focus on pelvic nerves as the key to pelvic organ function and pain, our discipline offers fascinating possibilities to modulate and restore neuronal function. It has already brought us a huge step forward and there is more to come. This was fully demonstrated by the 1st World Congress on Neuropelveology in Zürich.
Above all, we have to thank Marc Possover for his huge efforts, and so the many years of scientific and surgical work. With his unique clinical and scientific background, Marc has defined a discipline and a surgical platform that opens the door to a new land. Otherwise abandoned patients with debilitating pain can be offered detailed diagnosis and causal treatment. Application of neuromodulation will bring new devices that can help us in this development, and Marc’s elegant keynote lecture on the topic demonstrated the astonishing effects that can be achieved in spinal cord injury (SCI) by the Laparoscopic IntraOperative Neuroprosthesis (LION) procedure. It is no surprise that such results were met with skepticism in the past. However, emerging data from all over the World now strongly support these pioneer studies that define the way forward for years to come.

On behalf of the ‭ISoN Board of Founding Members and the entire ‭ISoN‬ community, we are proud to announce the election of Prof Karl-Erik Andersson to the International Advisory Board of the ISoN.

Prof. Andersson’s research interests are extremely important for the ISoN since he has a longstanding interest in bladder physiology and pathophysiology and in the pharmacological management of bladder dysfunctions, including OAB and its role in nocturia. He is also specifically interested in the spectrum of systemic diseases that can be associated with nocturia.
Prof. Andersson received his medical degree from the University of Lund in 1968, where he subsequently worked as a lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology. He completed his Ph.D. at the Department of Pharmacology, Lund University, in 1973. In 1975 he obtained a Swedish specialist degree in Internal Medicine and was appointed as Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Odense, Denmark. From 1976 to 1978 he had the same position at the University of Aarhus, Denmark.
